Thank you for joining me as we continue to explore the often-confusing concept of ‘enlightenment’. In this edition of Curious Avatar, we will look at the characteristics of an enlightened life and I will offer some tips for living a happier, healthier, more enlightened existence.
All matter manifests from spiritual energy. This is the origin story of the universe and the foundation of our being. Our core is energy—divine energy. This is who we ‘really’ are. Your physical form is merely a temporal manifestation of your spirit. As a result, when your biological mind is synchronized with your spiritual self, you gain access to the high frequency energy which is washing over you in every moment. Enlightenment is simply our capacity to access this flow of energy emanating from our spiritual core. . . and it feels good!
Your Mind is the Problem
Unfortunately, the brain is also a product of legacy programming. It has both ‘hardwired’ programming passed down from our evolutionary past and ‘socialized’ programming accumulated from our life experiences. Anytime this programming is out of synch with our spiritual core we are effectively cutoff from divine energy. When the brain obstructs our access to high frequency energy, we often think and behave in ways that are antithetical to our spiritual core. This ‘unenlightened’ behavior has negative ramifications for us and those around us.
The Key to Enlightenment
So, the key to enlightenment is straight forward—you must transcend your rote programming and mold the mind into a tool for accessing the flow of energy from your true self. Of course, this is easier said than done. Your mind is anchored in this physical realm, and it does not want to relinquish control to an other-dimensional force. It will fight to retain control of your thoughts, perceptions, and actions.
Religions and mystical traditions employ a diverse array of methods to overcome the mind’s stranglehold on consciousness. However, the common denominator is an attempt to focus the mind on an authority greater than itself. Indeed, for spiritual enlightenment to flow, your brain must recognize the existence of a transcendental intelligence.
Characteristics of Enlightenment
Volumes can, and have, been written on the pros and cons of different strategies for connecting with divine energy. There is no right or wrong answer, but there is a handful of characteristics that define an enlightened path:
1. Recognizing a creative intelligence beyond our material universe.
2. Affirming that all existence is tied together. There is no ‘other’. We are connected to all things, and everything is connected back to us. We are indelibly connected to one another.
3. The experience of peace and fulfillment is only attainable beyond the machinations of the brain—through a connection to spirit.
4. Reality is an experience of abundance, not scarcity.
5. Creativity and inspiration are gifts from the spiritual realm.
While these features are the hallmark of an enlightened experience, it is important to note that there is no right or wrong approach to molding the mind. Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of human consciousness is our individuality. Your unique gifts, challenges, karmic profile, and experience, also create the need for a novel spiritual path. There is no panacea. There is no religion or guru that has all the answers. Instead, it is incumbent upon each of us to remain open to new ideas. . . experiment with different techniques. . . and find the approach that resonates with both mind and spirit.
As you allow yourself to evolve, extend the same grace to those around you. Whether we are aware of it, or not, we are all on the path of enlightenment.
